We know we are not the only Moroccan rug shop in Toronto. However, we are the only Moroccan rug shop owned by us, with our unique perspectives and experiences. We dig what some of the other small guys are doing and we are flattered by what some of the big guys are doing, too (insert winking emoji). John and I (post about working with spouse will come eventually) work super hard to make your Mellah Moroccan Rug experience—online or in person— as fun and satisfying as possible. So far, it seems to be working!
We love people. We love food. We love drinks. We love Moroccan Rugs. Hence- Secret Sales. These are so much more than just sales—although who can be mad at a sale. Reduced prices on beautiful, one-of-a-kind, hand-knotted rugs from Morocco should not be that easy to find. Our secret sales are events, parties, and even, I daresay, happenings. So far we have had two, and they both have been amazing.
Secret Sale #1 THE UNPACKING PARTY. November 30th 2016. We received a shipment of a few vintage rugs as well as some Beni M'rirt rugs in the contemporary and oft-requested 5'x8' and 8'x10' sizes. We invited a few of our favorite people (a.k.a secret sale subscribers), picked up some charcuterie from Cote De Boeuf, and some booze from our local booze store (a.k.a the LCBO). Rugs are heavy. The unpacking party was basically 3 hours of John doing a form of Crossfit in front of an adoring crowd. We had a blast and live-streamed the whole thing on Facebook.
Secret Sale #2 THE BLOWOUT. January 26th 2017. We love all of our rugs like we love our own children. But, like children, there are some that have been hanging around too long, and you just want them to get the hell out of your house. Also, reducing/ 'kondoing' is good for the soul. And, most importantly, we are getting a new shipment soon (hello, UNPACKING PARTY #2) and heading to Morocco (hello, we are geniuses for quitting our "real" jobs and opening a Moroccan rug store) in a few weeks and want to make some space for our new inventory. Once again, our secret sale sign-ups had fist dibs on the goodies. At The Blowout we had delicious Moroccan Street food from our friends at B'saha, and some more booze. We weren't sure if this event was going to be more party than sale, but the customers that came were raring to shop and GTFO. There was magic in the air and the rugs were ready to ride.
FOMO sucks. If you want to be part of the Mellah circle of trust, please sign up for our Secret Sales for first access to food, booze, friends & fun with textiles.
