Babouches: Not a Trend, Not Not a Trend

Majorelle Blue Babouches Just Loving It

Majorelle Blue Babouches Just Loving It

So it's summer in #the6ix, and as you already know, Babouches are totally the it shoe. Will these pointy toed slippers die after the leaves fall from the trees, whose branches are bare against the wind and the cold, wintery light, or will they revive like autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower?

Who cares?!? All we know is we're just loving them right now!

A new shipment of crazy colors just dropped. Wear them with denim. Wear them with summer whites. Wear them to your best friend's wedding. Wear them with confidence, you crazy beautiful diamond spreading your magnificent wings like no one is watching. Everything is within You.

#WANT

You may ask yourself: Where can I find these chic, suede slippers? Well, for starters there is this awesome Moroccan Rug store in Toronto who imports them directly from artisans in Marrakesh and welcomes wholesale inquiries for select markets in Canada. Sand and Sumac in Prince Edward County in Canada has a selection that would make even Skittles taste the rainbow.

Whether you're #basic, #normcore, #manrepeller or an #elf, babouches are what you need to have dancing shoes with nimble soles, and not a soul of lead.

The Mellahverse is Expanding

This is a real get down to business blog post. I'm rolling up my sleeves and pounding this out, and not even curating my words too much. It's about us, it's about summer, it's about your unadorned floors and how to rectify that situation. Sit down, grit your teeth and just appreciate the straight knowledge that is about to be dropped on you.

POP UP AT THE BARNS - TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA

On July 16th, 23rd, 30th and September 10th, we are popping up at Artscape Wychwood Barns. This is going to be awesome (it better be because we already paid for the booth for all 4 dates). The farmers market has been a favourite of ours for a while, and the Pop Up will feature many incredible vendors... as well as us. You can bet your ass this thing will be curated.

FRANKIE'S SURF CLUB - PORT CARLING, ONTARIO, CANADA

July 9th and 10th we are leaving Zelda in Toronto to run the shop, loading up our aging Mercedes soccer mom SUV with Moroccan rugs, and driving to Port Carling, ON, Canada to "work" for the weekend in Muskoka. Frankie's Surf Club is hosting us for a weekend popup, and after that will have a curated selection of Moroccan rugs and other treasures from Mellah over the summer. More details to come on that shortly, probably via Instagram.

NEW STUFF IN THE STORE - 1090 COLLEGE STREET, TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA

We've been working with our suppliers in Morocco to get some really interesting new stuff in for the summer. It's Ramadan, the days are long and the guys are hungry and cranky, but everything has shipped and will be arriving in Toronto soon, inshallah.

Arriving soon: boucherouite flat weaves, cactus silk kilims, berber dresses, and more babouches! The indigo cloths have been wildly popular, so we're getting more of those, too. They can be hung on a wall, made into pillowcases, used as a tablecloth, or just wrapped tightly around your body. In stock now we have Moroccan wedding blankets and Middle Atlas capes, both very beautiful and versatile textiles. Mellah - We Curate So You Don't Have To!
